Hair, Skin, and Gut - The Struggle
I grew up with long, thick, coarse, annoying hair. I did not know how to take care of it. And regrettably, I would go to the salon and have them thin out my hair so that it was more manageable. That was in high school. Then in my early 20's, I struggled with autoimmune issues that caused alopecia spots all over my body, including my scalp. Besides the random bald spots on my scalp, my hair also thinned out. Then pregnancy happened, and I had two girls. You know what they say about having girls - they take the mom's beauty. I took my thick hair for granted growing up, and now I was paying the price.
On another note, I have struggled with eczema since I was a baby. My skin and lips always felt dehydrated and they were always dry, no matter how many different moisturizers and steroids I've used in my life. Experts say your skin and hair are a reflection of your gut health. And my autoimmune pains were the catalyst that helped me embark on my healing journey to address my gut health.
I have learned much about living a more clean and non-toxic lifestyle. This includes transitioning to more whole foods, natural beauty and skin care products, less toxic cleaning products, and high-quality supplements. This was especially important when I did the autoimmune protocol (AIP) elimination diet and the gut healing protocol guided by my functional medicine practitioner. I was on so many supplements it was ridiculous. Anyway, after all was said and done, I healed my gut enough to relieve my autoimmune pains, fibromyalgia, improve my sleep, and more. Check out my blog here to read more about how I did it.
Since then, I've improved my symptoms so much that I have been able to wean off most of my medications and supplements. But I continued to struggle with my skin health, brittle and peeling nails, and thinning hair. And I knew collagen was the missing key.
Benefits of Collagen
The most abundant protein in our body is collagen. It is found in our connective tissue, joints, vertebrates, skin, blood vessels, and even parts of our kidneys, ears, and eyes.
A mini summary of the benefits of collagen includes...
- May improve skin, nails, and hair health
- Decreases appearance of wrinkles, lines, discoloration
- Promotes firm and softens skin
- Supports joint health and may relieve joint pains
- May prevent bone loss and support muscle mass
- Supports gut health
Collagen and Gut Health
With increasing awareness of the gut-brain connection, more and more people are incorporating supplements into their wellness routines to optimize their digestive health. One popular option is collagen, a protein that helps keep our skin, hair, and nails healthy and strong. But not all collagen supplements are created equal. Studies have shown that collagen supplementation can help support the integrity and strength of the intestinal lining, reducing inflammation and promoting healthy digestion. This may lead to a decrease in bloating and discomfort commonly associated with gut issues.
My Results
I searched long and hard for the best and cleanest high-quality collagen supplement. I was sick of pills, and the powders I tried didn't taste great. It was hard to stay compliant. But I finally found THE ONE. Check out my pictures below. If you can SEE the results, imagine all the good things happening inside my body.
You can see two areas in the picture with dramatic results. The area near the temples has started to fill in significantly within just two months of starting the supplement. Then, even my sideburns begin to grow! I didn't even notice until January. Every time I put my hair up, I was annoyed that I had some short hair that wasn't long enough to put up in my messy mom bun. At one point - I even blamed my 4-year-old, thinking she cut my hair while I was asleep. But after looking at it closely, it was even on both sides. I freaked out and realized - OMG, this is new hair growth! I started digging into old pictures to see a pattern, and there it was. In about 5 months, I had noticeable growth in pictures (apparently, I didn't notice it at the time because it didn't bother me yet). And 7 months later, it was long enough to annoy me. lol
This is huge. I don't think my sideburns has every grown before. I used to wish it would grow because of watching Sailor Moon as a kid. And now I feel like I have that Sailor Jupiter hair going on LOL. What do you think?

And next, my hands.
These pictures are almost a year apart. I started the collagen supplement in April 2022. Full disclosure: I stopped taking the collagen for nearly two months when my family and I got sick with covid! But considering that, I still think I had pretty impressive results.
My hands have been dry, inflamed, and eczema-prone since I was a baby. When I was in middle school, I remember one of my parent's friends telling me that no one would ever give me a ring or marry me because my hands were so ugly. And since then, I've been so insecure about the appearance of my hands. I've tried countless methods - oral medications, topical steroids, several moisturizers, hand soaks, paraffin and other spa treatments, UV therapy, etc. etc. - to heal them, but nothing made much of a difference. But since I've had this condition so much longer, I knew healing my hands would be an even longer journey.
I honestly didn't think the appearance had changed, but looking at the pictures side-by-side, the thickening of my skin and swelling had slightly improved, and the dark spots below my nails had gotten much lighter. But what has significantly improved that I am so proud of is how soft my hands are now! It may not LOOK good, but it feels way softer than ever.
Get your high-quality line of collagen now
I give all the credit to this collagen line. I'm currently taking a medical-grade liquid collagen with all four types of collagen in this bottle. It is the ONLY one available on the market. The best part - it's a liquid collagen that tastes AMAZING. You only need to take 1-2 tablespoons each night. I also use collagen day and night cream. The night cream is my favorite because it has colloidal gold for its anti-inflammatory effects and marine probiotics for skin health. If you're ready to try it out yourself.
